Should CT allow accredited colleges to offer reduced-credit bachelor’s degrees?

Connecticut’s private colleges are exploring bachelor’s degree programs that would require 90 to 96 credits instead of the traditional 120. Supporters say the programs could reduce tuition and living expenses while expanding access for adult learners, transfer students and others underserved by four-year programs.

Critics worry that reducing credit requirements could weaken academic standards and diminish the value of a bachelor’s degree. State regulations currently prevent colleges from offering the programs.
