Does CT need to attract data centers to remain economically competitive?

Connecticut’s high electricity costs and dense population have kept the state on the sidelines of the national data center boom, even as artificial intelligence drives surging demand for infrastructure.

Gov. Ned Lamont recently signaled the state may require new data centers to bring their own power generation rather than draw from the grid — a policy aimed at protecting ratepayers but one that could further complicate an already challenging environment for developers.

As other states aggressively court data center investment, Connecticut faces a choice about how — or whether — to compete.
