Connecticut is doubling down on its efforts to keep the Connecticut Sun women’s basketball team — which its owner, Mohegan Sun, is trying to sell — in the Nutmeg State.
The team faces a critical juncture as the state has submitted a proposal to purchase a minority stake in the franchise, potentially keeping the team in-state with games split between Mohegan Sun Arena and Hartford's PeoplesBank Arena, according to Sports Illustrated.
This development comes after the WNBA blocked a $325 million sale to Boston investors and expressed concerns about other relocation proposals, Sports Illustrated reported.
The state's plan includes building a practice facility in Hartford through a public-private partnership. With the WNBA and Sun ownership expected to meet soon to assess options, the franchise's future remains uncertain.
