U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy has proposed legislation that would gradually raise the federal minimum wage to $25 an hour by 2032 for large employers.

Connecticut’s minimum wage, at $16.94 an hour, is already the second-highest in the country, but business groups say a $25 federal floor would sit just below the state’s median hourly wage, which would push many employers to raise pay across the board to preserve gaps between entry-level and experienced workers.
