Trinity College President Joanne Berger-Sweeney has been approaching her leadership role with the experimental mindset of a scientist.
It makes sense since she’s a trained neurophysiologist who’s contributed to more than 60 scientific publications.
As colleges and universities nationwide face declining enrollment, and some public skepticism about the value of skills taught at liberal-arts colleges like Trinity, Berger-Sweeney is overseeing a slew of new and innovative programs.
The Trinity-Infosys Applied Learning Initiative Berger-Sweeney began last year with tech giant Infosys provides training to new Infosys employees who are starting out as entry-level business analysts. The program incorporates elements of liberal arts along with tech training.
Under Berger-Sweeney, Trinity also introduced an urban planning graduate program and a new downtown Hartford campus, which is home to an innovation lab and other programs.
In March, Berger-Sweeney adopted remote learning for the rest of the spring semester in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
