Kamal Mohamed serves as a ship manager at General Dynamics Electric Boat, the premier designer and builder of the U.S. Navy’s nuclear submarines. In this capacity, he provides executive leadership over a multidisciplinary team and directs all aspects of construction management for the PCU USS District of Columbia, the lead vessel of the Navy’s nextgeneration Columbiaclass program.
Since joining Electric Boat in 2010, Mohamed has emerged as a respected leader within the submarine industrial base. He began his career as a systems engineer and advanced rapidly through roles of increasing responsibility.
What’s been your biggest professional accomplishment so far in your career?
My greatest accomplishment was leading the early delivery of the USS Iowa despite two years of COVID19 impacts and a major infrastructure failure in the final construction year. I safeguarded a 600person workforce, maintained momentum and ensured mission success under extraordinary conditions.
How are you involved in the community?
As a proud University of New Hampshire alumnus, I remain actively engaged with my alma mater by mentoring emerging STEM leaders and aspiring change-makers.
