James Mongillo is the owner of J. Mongillo Concrete Construction, a family-run commercial and residential concrete foundation contractor based in Southington. He oversees all aspects of the business, including estimating, project management and field operations.
Since founding the company, Mongillo has completed more than 1,500 projects throughout Connecticut, and has grown the business to a team of 12 employees, serving commercial, municipal and residential clients.
What’s been your biggest professional accomplishment so far in your career?
My biggest professional accomplishment has been creating opportunities for others while maintaining the values of a family-owned business. I have been able to build a strong team, develop lasting relationships with customers and contractors, while maintaining the quality and reputation that have earned us repeat business throughout the years.
How are you involved in the community?
I believe strongly in giving back to the community that has supported me. I support the YMCA, local schools and youth sports programs because investing in young people helps develop the skills, character and values that will strengthen our communities and shape the next generation.

What do you like to do outside of work?
I enjoy spending time with my wife and four children, coaching youth sports, traveling and supporting my kids’ activities. I like to stay active and play golf with my 6-year-old son. My most rewarding moments happen outside of work, surrounded by family and friends.
