Dayne Laskey is co-founder/co-owner of Tox Brewing in New London and a professor of pharmacy practice at the University of St. Joseph. He helped expand Tox into a downtown brewery with taproom, kitchen, coffee and event operations.
He also provides clinical toxicology consultation in Hartford Hospital’s emergency department, mentors learners and speaks regionally and nationally on toxicology, public health and science communication.
What’s been your biggest professional accomplishment so far in your career?
My biggest accomplishment has been helping grow Tox Brewing from a small local startup into a recognizable Connecticut brand, with a flagship New London location, statewide retail placement and a growing out-of-state distribution footprint, while maintaining a full teaching load and clinical practice.
How are you involved in the community?
I founded a medicine garden with 40-plus pharmacologically active plant species in Elizabeth Park where I showcase the origins of modern medicine. Through Tox, I host fundraisers, markets and civic events that bring people into downtown New London.

What do you like to do outside of work?
I spend most of my free time with my family, usually outside. I grow grapes and make small-batch wine, tap maple trees for syrup, hike, garden and play music. I relax by starting new projects that immediately become complicated.
Why do you deserve to be a 40 Under Forty?
Co-founded Tox Brewing in 2019 and helped transform it into a New London destination with craft beer, food, coffee, events and a hidden speakeasy.
Achieved tenure and promotion to full professor while practicing emergency medicine toxicology and mentoring students, residents and fellows.
Founded a 40-species medicine garden and host public programs translating toxicology into practical lessons for the general public.
