Ashley Dwyer is the development director at ConnectiKids, where she leads fundraising, grant development, donor engagement and community partnerships. Since joining the organization in 2023, she has helped secure nearly $500,000 in grant funding and generated more than $60,000 in annual fundraising and individual giving during a period marked by nationwide declines in charitable giving.
She has expanded fundraising into community-centered spaces, reinstated monthly newsletters and developed low-cost, high-impact fundraising initiatives that have strengthened community engagement and organizational support.
What’s been your biggest professional accomplishment so far in your career?
Before serving as development director, I secured a $30,000 grant in my first year as a grant writer. It was a defining moment that confirmed my purpose in nonprofit work and my ability to turn passion into tangible support for youth, shaping the trajectory of my work in youth-focused philanthropy.

How are you involved in the community?
I mentor students who have aged out of our program and stay connected as they grow. I advocate for educational equity by engaging local legislators on nonprofit funding challenges. I also serve as a connector in my community, helping people through personal networks access resources and support services.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy cooking and trying new recipes, and I love spending time in local cafés across Greater Hartford with my best friend. Live music and concerts bring me joy. I ground myself through church and writing poetry. My most cherished time is spent with my dad.
Why do you deserve to be a 40 Under Forty?
Became the youngest development director in ConnectiKids’ history.
Led design and installation of the ConnectiKids banner at Sigourney Square Park and spoke at its unveiling.
Spoke at CHRO’s No Barriers, No Limits Symposium, advocating for educational equity and nonprofit funding support.
