Adrianna Lawless, strategic executive engagement manager at M&T Bank, reports to the CEO and supports bank enterprise priorities. She built her career developing people, leading with empathy and delivering results across branch teams and digital leadership.
During her 12-year tenure, she led complex transformations, including Connecticut’s conversion of 120 branches during M&T’s integration of People’s United Bank, using compassion, active listening and thoughtful management to support employees and customers.
What’s been your biggest professional accomplishment so far in your career?
I’m most proud of helping people recognize their potential, build confidence and grow their careers. After transitioning from education into banking through M&T’s Management Development Program, I have dedicated my career to uplifting others, developing talent, leading organizations through change and creating opportunities that empower individuals to achieve lasting success.
How are you involved in the community?
I serve on the board of directors for the Yale Club of Hartford and coach youth sports. I also support education, financial literacy and mentorship initiatives. I enjoy helping young people and emerging professionals gain confidence, develop leadership skills and reach their potential.

What do you like to do outside of work?
I enjoy spending time with my husband and dog, golfing, reading and traveling. You’ll often find me outdoors hiking, fishing, camping or exploring a national park. As an aspiring Adirondack 46er and former Division I athlete, I enjoy challenges, lifelong learning and staying active.
Why do you deserve to be a 40 Under Forty?
While teaching preschool, a mentor advised me to go work where capital is allocated to make a real difference.
I’ve built a career in banking focused on developing people, leading teams through change and creating future leaders.
Relocated across multiple states to lead teams through mergers and transformation, helping employees, customers and communities navigate change.

Grew up working in family pizzeria, learning customer service, and working the cash register super young.
