Sara (Capellini) Smith serves as manager of account services and business development at Makiaris Media, a media buying and planning agency based in Rocky Hill. She began her career with the firm in 2018 as a media buyer and has steadily advanced through the ranks, earning promotions to senior media planner/buyer and ultimately to her current leadership role.
Today, Smith focuses on mentoring new team members, delivering exceptional service to clients and driving new business growth for the agency.
What’s been your biggest professional accomplishment so far in your career?
While honored by the professional recognition this award brings, I am most proud of my ability to contribute to my agency’s growth. I recently secured a new client account based solely on my track record of success with another local client. I consider this milestone one of my most meaningful achievements.

Why do you deserve to be a 40 Under Forty?
• Outstanding professional growth and leadership since beginning my career at local radio station, KC101, in 2009.
• Proven impact on business development with the current client base as well as new accounts, adding value to my company.
• Commitment to community and personal values, highlighting compassion and character.
How are you involved in the community?
I am deeply committed to community service. Throughout the year — especially during the holiday season — I donate both time and resources to local organizations supporting children and animals.
I am also an active participant in the Out of the Darkness Walks, benefiting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, a cause that holds great personal significance for me.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I enjoy exploring local art museums with my husband, Shawn, hiking new trails with my dog, Sauce, and discovering new restaurants, an experience I especially enjoy as a proud Italian foodie. Family and friends are very important to me and spending quality time with loved ones remains a top priority in my life.
Fun Fact: I have been singing since childhood and continue to enjoy it today, especially a night out at karaoke.
