Electric utilities Connecticut Light & Power and United Illuminating have delayed the opening of the application period for small renewable energy credit projects to Jan. 8.
CL&P and UI previously planned to open the Zero Renewable Energy Credit, or ZREC, program application period for installations of 100 kilowatts or smaller on Dec. 21. However, the utilities had asked regulators for an extension to iron out some details of the application process, and the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority granted that request.
The application period will run from noon Jan. 8 to noon Jan. 22. All awards will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.
The state launched the $1 billion, 21-year credit program earlier this year to proliferate renewable energy installations in Connecticut. CL&P and UI already awarded $8 million annually over 15-year contracts to 97 larger solar and fuel cell projects.
Until Jan. 8, UI is testing its new online application for the program. To try out the application, visit www.uinet.com/powerprocurement.
