A Yale University computer scientist is among 23 recipients of this year’s so-called ‘‘genius grants’’ from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, The Associated Press reports.
Forty-two-year-old Daniel Spielman of New Haven will receive $500,000 over the next five years from the Chicago-based foundation.
Spielman’s research connects theoretical and applied computing to resolve coding issues with real-world implications.
The MacArthur grants, being announced Monday night, are designed to give recipients freedom to pursue a creative vision.
