Yale New Haven Hospital seeks to consolidate dental offices

Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH) is proposing to relocate three adult and surgical dental locations in Hamden and New Haven into one centralized location in New Haven, which currently houses pediatric dental services, according to a Certificate of Need application filed last week with the state Office of Health Care Access.

YNHH proposes a $2.8 million renovation and expansion of its pediatric dental office at 1 Long Wharf Dr., in New Haven, for the project. The work, covering 11,530 square feet, would include expansion into two vacant spaces at the site and reconfiguration of existing space. Pending state approval, the work would begin in Jan. 2018 and conclude in September.

The project would relocate adult dental services from 2560 Dixwell Ave. in Hamden and 789 Howard Ave. in New Haven, and oral surgery services at 330 Orchard St. in New Haven to the New Haven Long Wharf site. The current Hamden office is the farthest from the new site, at 8.2 miles.

The Long Wharf location was chosen to provide dental services because it offers patients the best access and convenience, the application says, noting it’s on a bus route, has free parking and is close to major highways.
