Yale New Haven Health names new president of Yale New Haven Hospital

Yale New Haven Health announced Thursday that it has appointed Dr. Katherine Heilpern as the new president of Yale New Haven Hospital.

Heilpern, who is currently chief of the Office of Provider Professionalism and Support at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, will begin in her new role on March 11.

She replaces Dr. Keith Churchwell, who left the job in August.

Yale said Heilpern was selected after an extensive search due largely to her experience as both a health system executive and academic chair at highly respected health systems.

Heilpern was recruited to New York-Presbyterian from Emory University School of Medicine and Emory Healthcare, where she practiced emergency medicine and served on the faculty for 22 years. She was chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine for 12 years.

Heilpern received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and her medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine. She completed her residency at Temple University Hospital.
