Yale New Haven Health (YNHH) was slated to cut the ribbon Tuesday on a new digestive health center at its North Haven medical complex that combines patient care and clinical research.
The new digestive center consists of 15 exam rooms, four consultation rooms, an infusion suite, diagnostic radiology facilities and a clinical research room. The center will also host onsite medical researchers to offer the latest in clinical trials to patients, according to the health system.
Dr. Bubu Banini, chair of Yale’s Digestive Health Research Operations committee, said, “We were inspired to include planning for the clinical research space from the very beginning due to our desire to create a facility that truly integrates research with clinical practice.”
The center opened to the public on Jan. 31 at 8 Devine St. The facility also hosts the Center for Weight Management, a collaborative venture between YNHH and the Yale School of Medicine.
Other clinical programs at the facility include the Center for Nutrition and Wellness, Fatty Liver Disease Program, Gastrointestinal Motility Program, Inflammatory Bowel Disease Program, Celiac Disease Program and General Gastroenterology Program, according to a Yale Medical School statement.
Also set to open soon at the center is a teaching kitchen, which will offer in-person and online cooking classes. The kitchen will be the first of its kind in the state, according to a YNHH statement.
The North Haven facility will also offer expanded facilities and services in neurology and orthopedic services, according to YNHH.
Orthopedic services will include non-surgical therapies and minimally invasive surgical options for ailments including arthritis, foot and ankle disorders, sports injuries and trauma.
Neurologic conditions treated at the center include concussion, epilepsy, general neurology, headache, memory, movement disorders and stroke.
YNHH opened its North Haven campus in 2013, with care centered in a 20,000-square-foot building.
The North Haven campus now includes multiple buildings and services including blood draw, diagnostic radiology, endoscopy, heart and vascular, interventional immunology, physical rehabilitation, sleep medicine and a walk-in center.
