Yale New Haven creates health facility for Sacred Heart students

Students at Sacred Heart University now have a dedicated facility to take care of their health and medical needs.

Yale New Haven Health’s Northeast Medical Group (NEMG) recently completed a new space at its Park Avenue Medical Center in Trumbull to serve as a health center for SHU students.

The 2,000-square-foot space includes four exam rooms and a lab and is fully dedicated to SHU students. The project cost about $400,000, according to SHU officials.

The medical center is located at 5520 Park Ave. in Trumbull, which is down the street from SHU’s Park Avenue campus in Fairfield. Students can take an SHU shuttle to the facility.

SHU officials said an expanded partnership between SHU and NEMG gives students greater access to medical care as SHU’s health services are now part of the wider Yale New Haven Health System, and NEMG is able to provide coordinated health care. All Yale New Haven Health resources are available to students.

“This partnership has been great for the university,” said SHU Dean of Students Larry Wielk. “Our students have more health care options and a wider range of services as a result.”

Anne Diamond, executive vice president, Yale New Haven Health and president at Bridgeport Hospital, said this new location will allow for easy access to health care for students, is close to campus, and will allow for “seamless transitions to higher level care if ever needed.”
