Yale med school joins vets’ health push

Yale University is among six medical colleges in New England  that will participate in a  nationwide program to teach their students how to better serve military veterans’ unique physical and mental health needs, The Associated Press reports.

The White House initiative is part of a program called Joining Forces and will help new docs to better understand and treat traumatic brain injuries, post-traumatic stress disorder and other problems.

The 130 participating medical schools will provide specialized training for students, develop new research and clinical trials, share their findings with each other and collaborate with federal agencies.

Besides Yale University, other New England schools that will participate include the University of Massachusetts and Harvard, Boston and Tufts universities; and the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine.
