Yale University placed in the top three national universities, as UConn fell a couple spots in the public schools category from last year in an annual ranking of colleges and universities in the United States.
U.S. News and World Report’s Best Colleges rankings for 2020 put Yale holding its place from last year’s rankings in the number three spot for national universities, tied with Columbia University and MIT.Â
UConn, however, dropped to No. 24 for public schools, two spots lower than 2019. UConn’s northern neighbor, the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, along with the University of Maryland at College Park tied the Connecticut university in the 24th spot for public schools.
Fairfield University had a strong showing in the regional universities category, taking third place behind two other New England institutions: Providence College, at No. 1, and Bentley University at No. 2.Â
The U.S. Coast Guard Academy, which is located in New London, placed second in the regional colleges category behind Cooper Union.Â
In the national liberal-arts colleges field, Wesleyan University secured a place in the top 20, tying with Colgate University, Davidson College and the United States Naval Academy in 17th place.
