XL’s Irene Esteves leaving CFO post

Irish insurer XL Group PLC, with operations in Hartford, says Irene M. Esteves is leaving as chief financial officer barely a year after arriving amid published reports she is close to signing on with the nation’s No. 2 cable-TV operator Time Warner.

XL CEO Mike McGavick in Dublin headquarters hailed Esteves for “many contributions to XL during her tenure” and said the search for her successor will begin immediately.

Esteves, 52, joined XL in May 2010 after spending two years as CFO for Regions Financial Corp., according to Forbes.com.

From 2004 to 2008, she was CFO of former Wachovia Corp.’s Capital Management Group. Before that Esteves was senior managing director and CFO of Putnam Investments.
