XL taps director, shakes up S. America arm

XL Capital Ltd., with insurance operations in Hartford, named ex-Wall Street investment banker Clayton S. Rose to its board of directors.

Meanwhile, XL has announced a management shakeup in the Latin America branch of its global reinsurance operation and named an interim chief financial officer.

Rose, currently a Harvard business professor, was previously an executive of investment bank J.P. Morgan & Co.

As a Class III director, Rose must stand for re-election at XL’s annual general meeting in May. He will serve on the board’s finance committee and the nominating, governance and external affairs committee.

Latin America will continue to be run by Stephen Outerbridge, chief underwriting officer and chief operating officer of XL Re Latin America Ltd. Outerbridge is also chief operating officer of Brazil and interim president.

Meanwhile, Hernan Moreno has been appointed regional chief underwriting officer and will relocated from Sao Paulo, Brazil, to Bogota, Colombia next year where he also will become country manager.

Also in Brazil, technical commercial director Edson Wiggers has been promoted to vice president in charge of business development and underwriting operations, reporting directly to Outerbridge and Mr. Moreno.

In Argentina, Leandro Di Bello, country manager, has taken on additional duties as chief client officer, coordinating marketing efforts in the Latin America region with a special focus on Brazil.

Simon Rich, XL’s controller since March 2005, will serve as interim chief financial officer, pending an outside search for a permanent successor for Brian Nocco, who is leaving XL, effective Dec. 31.
