Irish reinsurer XL Group PLC, with Hartford operations, says it expects to see a loss of $135 million to $185 million for the quarter that ended Dec. 31 from damage caused by widespread flooding in Thailand, The Associated Press reports.
The company said the preliminary loss estimates are pretax and net of reinsurance and reinstatement premiums.
The company announced additional losses of approximately $35 million related to catastrophe loss events that occurred during the first three quarters of 2011. The losses relate primarily to second-quarter tornado activity and third-quarter windstorms and subsequent flooding in the United States.
