The insurance unit of XL Capital, with Hartford operations, has renewed policies related to the ongoing environmental cleanup of two defunct northern California military bases.
XL Insurance renewed coverage for the Riverbank Army Ammunition Plant and Alameda Naval Air Station to help address environmental concerns as redevelopment activities continue on those sites. Â
Riverbank, near Modesto, Calif., was officially deactivated on March 31, 2010. Â The environmental insurance policy was purchased shortly thereafter by the landlord to minimize its environmental exposure in cleaning up the site, XL said.
The 1,700-acre Alameda Naval Air Station, near San Francisco, closed in 2001.
