XL Capital, NRG volunteers giving back

Connecticut employees from XL Capital and NRG Energy Inc. joined colleagues Thursday in fanning out across four continents to perform community service as part of “Global Day of Giving.”

XL’s Hartford volunteers fanned out across city neighborhoods painting, raking and doing other yard chores at a local child learning center and washing passenger vans and buses at The Village, a nonprofit support organization for Hartford region children and families.

Those were among the more than 160 projects XL employees planned for this year’s public service event. Giving projects were also underway across the U.S.; Hong Kong; Bermuda, where XL is based for the time being; South America, Germany and Spain, among other cities and countries where XL has operations.

At New Jersey-based NRG Energy, which operates electric generating plants in Connecticut, more than 700 employees left their desks and to partner with various charitable organizations in their communities across the country.
