More than 1,200 Xfinity WiFi hotspots in Hartford are available for free today, with millions more open nationwide to customers and non-customers alike, Comcast announced Monday, as the cable giant readies for heavy web traffic on CyberMonday.
Cyber Monday is the online shopping day that follows Black Friday, one of the busiest shopping days of the year. According to The National Retail Federation, 36 percent of consumers plan to take advantage of Cyber Monday deals this year, but bargain-hunters will be in transit and may choose to access cyber deals from mobile devices.
Consequently, Comcast is making its hotspots available free of charge from 6 a.m. today through 6 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29.
Many of Comcast’s 15 million Xfinity WiFi hotspots nationwide are located on train platforms, in small businesses, parks and shopping districts – many of the places consumers will be as they search for Cyber Monday deals, Comcast said.
