Xerox survey: 82% of IT workers expected back in offices over 12-18 months

A study commissioned by Norwalk-based Xerox Holdings Corp. found 82% of IT employees will return to offices for work within 12 to 18 months, following a period of working from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Xerox Future of Work Survey, which was conducted by U.K.-based independent research firm Vanson Bourne, queried 600 IT managers in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Germany and France from companies employing at least 500 workers.

“While there is no doubt the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we work, our research found that over time many companies plan to have most employees back in an office environment,” Xerox CEO Steve Bandrowczak said.

The survey also found companies are expanding technology to allow for increased work from home, or hybrid options for employees, with 56% increasing technology budgets and 34% planning to speed their digital transformation.

Respondents to Xerox’s survey also reported the sudden switch to remote work exposed some gaps in their companies’ technology infrastructure. Just  28% said they were fully prepared and 29% said technology is their most problematic area.
