Work starts Wed. for $28M vets’ housing in Newington

Construction begins Wednesday on a $28 million project to build 74 units of affordable housing for homeless veterans in Newington, authorities say.

The VA Connecticut Healthcare System and the Women’s Institute for Housing and Economic Development will break ground for Victory Gardens at 1 p.m. at 555 Willard Ave., officials said.

Webster Bank is the lender for the development.

The project will consist of 40 one-bedroom units, 22 two-bedroom units and 12 three-bedroom units, officials said.
