Work has begun on Maryland’s first commercial wind farm, The Associated Press reports.
Constellation Energy said Wednesday that crews began surveying and clearing timber from the site near Deer Park in mid-March. It will consist of 28 turbines atop Backbone Mountain.
Garrett County officials approved revisions to an erosion- and sediment-control plan Tuesday, a week after complaints from a nearby resident brought work to a halt.
A spokesman for Baltimore-based Constellation says the company expects to close shortly on its purchase of the $140 million project from Clipper Windpower Inc.
Constellation says it expects the project to begin generating electricity by the end of this year.
