The towns of Woodstock, Scotland, and Hampton each joined Connecticut’s Clean Energy Communities program.
The program challenges each municipality to reduce government building energy consumption by 20 percent and purchase 20 percent of its electricity needs from renewable power, all by 2018.
More than 40 of the state’s 169 communities have joined the program.
Through participation in the program, the towns earns points for conservation efforts, like residents signing up for home energy assessments, that can be used toward the construction of a solar photovoltaic array.
