Woodbridge green chemistry firm P2 Science launches new cosmetic butter

Green chemistry company P2 Science of Woodbridge announced the launch of a new cosmetic butter for skin and haircare use derived from sustainable forestry byproducts.

The product, called “CItroButter,” protects and hydrates the skin and helps hair retain moisture and fight heat, humidity and frizz. It’s made from Forest Stewardship Council certified pine trees.

P2 Science CEO Neil Burns said, “There are a number of natural butters on the market today, but nothing with multi-product performance anywhere close to that of CitroButter. CitroButter is a huge product platform breakthrough, brought to market in record time using our concept-to-consumer business model.”

P2 Science has started manufacturing CitroButter S at its facility in Naugatuck and selling the product on its website.

According to the description on P2 Science’s website, the product “offers nice spreadability” and is non-greasy, while “delivering a soft and light after feeling.”

CitroButter is the 14th green chemistry-based product to be commercialized by P2 since April 2020, the company said in a statement.

Paul Anastas, head of Yale’s Center for Green Chemistry and Engineering, co-founded P2 Science to develop a line of green, sustainable chemicals that can match the performance of high-end cosmetics, fragrances and polymer coatings.
