P2 Science has been selected for $2.8 million in federal funding to advance research into faster fuel and chemical production methods.
A Woodbridge-based green chemistry company announced it has been selected to receive $2.8 million in federal funding to support research aimed at speeding up the development of materials used in fuel and chemical production.
P2 Science, which develops plant-based specialty chemicals used in consumer and industrial products, said it will receive the funding from the U.S. Department of Energy Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy through a program focused on improving how industrial catalysts are developed.
The company plans to use the funding to build automated systems that combine robotics and artificial intelligence to test large numbers of catalyst candidates more quickly. Catalysts are materials that help speed up chemical reactions and are commonly used in manufacturing and fuel production.
The goal is to reduce the time it takes to develop these materials and improve methods for converting plant-based feedstocks, such as oils and resins, into liquid fuels, the company said.
The project will involve partnerships with The Matter Lab and The National Labs of the Rockies, which will provide expertise in artificial intelligence and computational modeling.
P2 Science develops renewable ingredients used in products such as personal care items, fragrances and performance materials.
