Woodbridge and Beacon Falls have each decided to commit to the Connecticut’s Clean Energy Communities program and reduce energy consumption while using more renewables.
The Clean Energy Communities program is run by the state Energy Efficiency Fund, the Clean Energy Finance & Investment Authority, and the state utilities to convince cities and towns to enact energy efficiency measures while proliferating renewable energy installations. The municipalities earn points under the program that can be redeemed for rewards such as solar systems at schools.
Woodbridge Beacon Falls pledged to reduce its municipal building energy consumption 20 percent and purchase 20 percent of its municipal electric needs from renewable sources by 2018.
In total, the program has had 31 municipalities sign the pledge.
