The Connecticut Department of Revenue Services has released withholding tables and instructions to reflect the income tax rate changes from the recently approved state budget.
Because the rate changes are retroactive to Jan. 1, the withholding tables contain “catch-up” calculations that, starting Aug. 1, spread the tax increases over the remainder of the calendar year.
Using these tables will help ensure that taxpayers are not significantly under-withheld at the end of the year, said Commissioner Kevin Sullivan.
Some of the changes to the state’s income tax include the expansion of the tax rates, or brackets, from three to six, the agency said. The new brackets are: 3 percent, 5 percent, 5.5 percent, 6 percent, 6.5 percent and 6.7 percent.
