Dignitaries gathered last week to cut the ceremonial ribbon and celebrate the opening of The Windward Apartments, a complex featuring 54 mixed-income units in four buildings in Bridgeport.
The project is the first phase of three planned for the site of the former Marina Village public housing complex.
The development includes a mix of one, two and three-bedroom units, available in townhouse and flat-style apartments. At 20 Johnson St., Bridgeport, it features amenities such as a fitness center, resident lounge and entertainment area, and outdoor play, picnic and barbecue areas.
On the ground floor, there is a 7,200-square-foot commercial space, which has been leased to Southwest Community Health Center.
While the first phase of the complex is already open and fully occupied, the developers invited dignitaries for the grand opening to celebrate.
U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., said, “The Windward offers more opportunities for quality affordable housing in Bridgeport while improving the quality of life in the Marina Village community.”
Windward Development Associates LLC, comprised of JHM Group of Companies, The Richman Group and Park City Communities, is behind the $25 million project.
Old structures at the site were knocked down in 2018 to make way for the new development.
Todd D. McClutchy, president of JHM Group, said the company is “thrilled” to celebrate the completion of the complex, “the first of three phases planned for the revitalization of Bridgeport’s south end.”
