Windsor skin care products provider Scapa Healthcare on Monday opened a new 152,000-square-foot medical device manufacturing facility in Knoxville, Tenn.
The facility, which officials say will add 100 new jobs in the next five years, doubles Scapa’s existing footprint in Knox County and consolidates its three area facilities into a single site.
Scapa, a contract manufacturer and services provider for the medical device industry, advanced wound care and consumer wellness industries, invested $31 million in the new facility, according to WATE-TV, an ABC affiliate based in Knoxville.
The company said the new manufacturing facility was designed to maximize workflow, printing, packaging and other tasks to support increased demand for medical device manufacturing.
Scapa’s latest expansion builds off its acquisition of Systagenix, an England-based maker of wound care products, last year. As part of the purchase, Scapa added Systagenix’s 335,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Gargrave, England to its wound care footprint.
Scapa last year also acquired Dallas-based BioMed Laboratories, a maker of over-the-counter pharmaceutical, medical device, wound care and skin care products, for $19 million.
