Windsor Locks officials on Monday approved plans for a 12,000-square-foot truck repair facility and depot just east of Bradley International Airport.
The Planning and Zoning Commission, in 2024, approved Nitro Realty LLC’s proposal to construct a 48,412-square-foot warehouse at 321 Ella Grasso Turnpike, also known as 501 North St., along with a 24,696-square-foot warehouse at 499 North St.
Under a revised plan approved this week, Nitro will replace the larger warehouse at 321 Ella Grasso Turnpike with a smaller truck maintenance building and a surface lot primarily used for storing and servicing truck cabs.
According to the application, the site will function as a staging area where drivers pick up truck cabs before connecting to trailers at the airport or nearby Amazon facilities and departing on delivery routes. After completing deliveries, drivers will return the cabs to the depot for storage, fueling and maintenance.
Nitro Realty’s principal, John Kumpa, also owns Windsor Locks-based Multi-Mode Logistics LLC, a third-party logistics firm that operates several warehouses in the airport area.
