The 83-year-old Windsor Locks Federal Credit Union has a new name.
The not-for-profit cooperative, which has 4,194 members and $86.8 million in assets, is now called Riverbank Federal Credit Union. Officials said the new name reflects the credit union’s proximity and connection to the Connecticut River, and also the fact that it is open to all people throughout Hartford County.
Its only branch is located at 516 Spring St.
Customers won’t be impacted by the change, according to Riverbank Federal Credit Union President and CEO Charla Stetson.
“Everything else stays the same—our staff, our products, our member account numbers and, most important, our commitment to those we serve,” she said.
The credit union was established in 1940 as St. Mary’s Windsor Locks Parish Federal Credit Union. It was created to serve the parishioners of St. Mary’s Church in Windsor Locks.
In 1979, the credit union charter was changed to allow more people in Hartford County to join and the name was changed to Windsor Locks Federal Credit Union.
Riverbank Federal Credit Union will be the third name in 83 years, Stetson said.
