Windsor hotel lengthens furloughs

Management at the Hartford Windsor Marriott Airport Hotel has extended furloughs for dozens of employees in light of continued capacity limits.

In a letter sent to the state Department of Labor last week, officials with Crestview Management advised that they will keep 77 of the hotel’s 114 total workers furloughed indefinitely in response to COVID-19-related occupancy restrictions.

Those staff members were originally furloughed between March and December of last year, the company stated, and have been advised of the extension.

Crestview said it intends to “reinstate all furloughed employees once our business operations increase and we are financially able to do so.”

Several hotels in and around Hartford temporarily furloughed workers last spring after the state ordered a lockdown in hopes of slowing the spread of the coronavirus.

Hotels and motels were gradually allowed to accept guests again, but they must adhere to numerous health and safety requirements, including thoroughly cleaning rooms and common areas and implementing staggered work shifts to reduce contact among employees.
