Three Windsor High School teachers are among 23 teachers nationwide named “2011 All American Teachers of the Year” by the National Math and Science Initiative.
Joseph Mancino, an advanced placement physics instructor; Kathleen Pointek, AP calculus teacher; and Samuel Scheer, AP English and English literature teacher were the only Connecticut school with teachers honored with the recognition.
Windsor High was the only school in the entire competition to have all three of its entrants win, the school said Monday. In fact, no other school had more than one of its teachers recognized.
The awards, which recognize outstanding math, science and English teachers for remarkable contributions to their students and to the teaching profession, will be presented at an awards luncheon on May 26 in Washington, D.C.
The other instructors were from Massachusetts, Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, South Dakota, Texas and Virginia.
The nonprofit initiative promotes improving American students’ math and science achievement.
