Wilton’s Commonfund names Belmont risk chief

David Belmont, a quantitative analyst and former UBS Investment Bank executive, has joined Commonfund Group in Wilton as chief risk officer.

Belmont reports to Verne O. Sedlacek, president and CEO, and the audit and risk management committee of the institutional investment manager for endowments and foundations, pension funds and wealthy investors.

He replaces William Martin, who left last December after three years to become chief risk officer at the Abu Dhabi Sovereign Wealth Fund, officials said.

Belmont previously was global head of hedge fund credit for UBS, where he led a global team of 45 risk managers and analysts, according to Commonfund.

Before UBS, Belmont spent more than six years in Singapore with Temasek Holdings, Singapore’s $100 billion sovereign wealth fund, ending up as its chief risk officer from 2004 to 2007.

He earned a B.A. from Bowdoin College and an M.B.A. and M.S. in international relations from Yale University.
