Wilson-Gray YMCA Youth & Family Center receives $5,000 grant from TD Charitable Foundation

The Wilson-Gray YMCA Youth & Family Center recently received a $5,000 grant from the TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of TD Bank, to support itsĀ Y Achievers Program. Y Achievers promotes academic success and career development for youth in grades five through 12. Y Achievers helps individual kids develop leadership skills and become role models in their neighborhoods and community.

$200,000 grant awarded to Leadership Greater Hartford’s Leaders On Board program

The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving recently awarded $200,000 in additional funding to support Leadership Greater Hartford’s Leaders on Board program.Ā The grant will fund the program through July 2016. Leaders On Board began in 2009 and strengthens nonprofit organizations by training and connecting participants with boards of directors seeking new members.

The program attracts individuals who want to serve on a board, develop their leadership skills and serve the community. It also attracts nonprofit organizations looking for board members who have been trained in the basics of board membership. In addition, corporations and businesses participate in the program by offering board governance training to prepare their employees who are interested in serving the community. Leaders on Board has successfully matched more than 300 individuals with more than 75 nonprofit organizations.

CRIS offers audio versions of Spanish-language magazines

CRIS Radio, a 35-year-old nonprofit radio-reading service, is introducing audio versions of Spanish-language magazines and newspapers for people who are blind or print-challenged. The new service, CRIS en EspaƱol, is accessible on demand either by telephone or online at www.crisradio.org.

CRIS volunteers who are fluent in Spanish provide the voice talent for seven Spanish-language publications, including Cosmopolitan, ESPN Deportes, El Sol, Identidad Latina, ”Hola!, Iguana and People. Access to the CRIS Telephone Reader and CRIS en Español on-demand archives are free of charge, thanks to special funding from the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving.

Hartford’s Immaculate Conception shelter receives donation from RBC Wealth Management

Hartford’s Immaculate Conception Shelter has received a $500 grant from RBC Wealth Management’s Hartford office and from RBC Foundation — USA. The mission of the RBC Foundation is to improve the quality of life in the communities where RBC Wealth Management does business by supporting nonprofit organizations that make a positive impact. The foundation focuses on five core areas: arts and culture, education, health, human services and civic activities.

Tilcon CT makes $50K pledge to Hospital of Central CT

The Hospital of Central Connecticut recently received a $50,000 pledge toward its new cancer center from Tilcon Connecticut on behalf of its employees. Tilcon’s gift supports the hospital’s $10 million fundraising campaign for the cancer center, currently under construction in New Britain. The center’s main entrance patio garden will be named in recognition of Tilcon Connecticut employees.

The $40 million state-of-the-art cancer center is expected to open by early 2015.

KBE Building supports charities through 50 Ways to Make a Difference

KBE Building Corp. donated more than 2,000 hours and $100,000 in corporate and employee donations in 2013 as part of the company’s 50 Ways to Make a Difference program.

The 50 Ways to Make a Difference program focuses on providing support to the communities where KBE operates. Since 2009, KBE, its owners, and its employees have donated more than $1 million to charitable organizations in Connecticut and Maryland.
