The National Solid Wastes Management Association honored the vice president of Willimantic Waste with the group’s Special Governor’s Award for his advocacy work for the industry with government officials.
Tom DeVivo, vice president at Willimantic Waste, one of the three brothers that run the four-generation waste and recycling business employing 270 people.
DeVivo was a member of Gov. Dannel Malloy’s Modernizing Recycling Working Group, advocating for ways to increase the recycle rate and use of recycled materials in Connecticut. He also works with UConn to increase its recycling and members of the waste-to-energy business to keep the state’s incinerators viable.
DeVivo received the award at the NSWMA’s national trade show in New Orleans.
