What outfit deserves this dubious title?

It’s not exactly the NCAA championship, but a number of consumer-services corporations familiar to Connecticut are involuntary vying for this year’s title of the “Worst Company in America.”

The Consumerist has assembled 32 corporate nominees — down from 1,000 — submitted by readers for the dubious six-year-old award, including Bank of America, Wells Fargo Bank, Comcast, Delta Air Lines, Walmart, Apple, Toyota, Best Buy, CVS and WellPoint, parent of Anthem Blue Cross of Connecticut.

Cable communications provider Comcast is the reigning “champion” from 2010.

The companies are seeded in brackets similar to the NCAA basketball pairings and compete daily in online consumer voting to advance  to a “sweet 16,” then a “final four,” and ultimately a “championship” pairing.

The last day to vote at www.consumerist.com is April 15, with the winner to be announced the following week, the online consumer information and entertainment site says.
