Westport’s Compass pays $91M for ERGO Baby

Compass Diversified Holdings in Westport paid $91 million to add a Hawaiian maker of wearable infant carriers to its broad product-services portfolio.

Compass said the price for The ERGO Baby Carrier Inc. of Pukalani, on the island of Maui, is about seven times ERGO’s gross earnings. Its 2009 revenue was $22.8 million.

Compass CEO Joe Massoud said ERGO’s strong brand and global trends, including the increase in live births and rising affluence in markets outside the West, drove the deal.

ERGObaby products are sold in more than 700 retailers and online stores in the U.S. and 20 countries.
