The town of Westport joined 60 other Connecticut municipalities in signing the Clean Energy Communities pledge to improve renewable energy use and efficiency.
Under the program, Westport said it would by 2018 reduce municipal energy consumption 20 percent and voluntary purchase 20 percent of its municipal power needed from renewable resources.
The town also will encourage its residents to take part in Home Energy Solutions programs where efficiency experts will audit their homes’ power and heating usage.
Depending on how well it performs, Westport can earn points toward rewards from the Clean Energy Finance & Investment Authority, including the installation of a solar system.
