Westport-based Balance Point Capital Advisors has invested in Shelton software company The Edge as part of the business’ acquisition by California private equity firm Serent Capital.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The Edge develops software for independent jewelry retailers, including tools for point-of-sale transactions, inventory management, repairs, appraisals and customer records. The company says it serves thousands of jewelry stores nationwide.
As part of the transaction, Josh Brenner has been named CEO. Founder Dick Abbott, who led the company for nearly 25 years, is retiring but will assist with the leadership transition.
Balance Point said it participated in the deal through affiliated investment funds. The Westport alternative investment manager says it oversees about $2.4 billion in assets.
Serent Capital focuses on software and technology-enabled services companies.
