Westport-based Connoisseur Media completes acquisition, becomes top 10 radio broadcaster

Connoisseur Media announced Thursday that it completed its acquisition of Alpha Media, creating a radio broadcasting company that operates 216 stations across 47 markets.

The Westport-based company announced the deal’s closing following Federal Communications Commission approval on Aug. 13.

The acquisition adds Alpha’s 205 stations to Connoisseur’s existing portfolio of Connecticut and Long Island properties, making it one of the top 10 U.S. radio broadcasters, the company said.

Connoisseur’s acquisition of the Portland, Oregon-based media company expands its broadcasting market into San Antonio, Texas; Salt Lake City, Utah; San Jose, California; Palm Springs, Florida; and Louisville, Kentucky.

Connoisseur agreed to purchase Alpha Media earlier this year.

The combined company now reaches 20% of the U.S. radio audience, Connoisseur said.

“Local broadcasting has always been at the heart of what we do,” said Jeff Warshaw, CEO of Connoisseur Media. “This acquisition is about assembling the scale and resources to keep radio strong, serve our communities, empower our employees, and create even more value for advertisers.”

Connoisseur began as a radio company serving local Connecticut markets, including stations in Fairfield and New Haven counties, as well as Nassau and Suffolk counties in Long Island.
