The high-end Balducci’s grocery store in Westport will close by the end of February, with 59 non-union employees facing layoffs or transfers to other Albertsons-owned locations.
Malvern, Pennsylvania-based Albertsons notified the state Department of Labor on Monday that “as many associates as possible” will be offered positions at other company stores.
The store, located at 1385 Post Road E., is one of seven Balducci’s locations nationwide, including one in Greenwich and others in Maryland, New York and Virginia. Albertsons operates more than 2,200 grocery stores across 35 states under 22 retail brands.
“Anyone who is not offered a role would be eligible for severance pursuant to applicable company policies,” Albertsons said. “While our goal is to transfer the affected associates, the exact placement of positions has not yet been completed.”
Calls to Albertsons were not returned.
