Westbrook train station breaks ground

Westbrook broke ground Friday for a new $14.4 million Shore Line East railroad station and passenger platforms, authorities say.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, state Transportation Commissioner James P. Redeker and town officials were to be on hand for the 11 a.m. construction launch of the station and platforms linked by a pedestrian overpass at Norris Avenue/Route 153.

The new station will be adjacent to the existing one.

Banton Construction Co. of North Haven is the contractor.
