West Haven specialty foods maker Cosmo’s acquired

A West Haven food manufacturer has been acquired by a New Jersey-based pickle company, expanding the buyer’s specialty foods portfolio and adding a Connecticut operation to its footprint.

Patriot Pickle announced last week that it has acquired Cosmo’s Food Products, a family-owned West Haven company that makes peppers, antipasto and other marinated vegetable products for grocers, restaurants and foodservice distributors.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Founded in 1944 by the Laudano family, Cosmo’s Food Products has built a long-standing niche supplying premium peppers, garlic, olives, mushrooms, artichokes and related items, sold under its own brand as well as through co-packing arrangements.

Cosmo Laudano, president of Cosmo’s Food Products, said the deal allows the company to continue operating while providing stability for employees and customers as ownership changes.

Patriot Pickle, founded in 2004, manufactures and distributes pickles and other fermented foods to foodservice and retail customers across North America. The company said the acquisition adds manufacturing capacity and broadens its product offerings beyond traditional pickles.
